Ecoplex Cinema
FREAK FILM COMES TO THE BUSH - OUTLANDS ECOPLEX CINEMA
There is a Giant Outdoor Cinema at the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, in a magical grove of manna gums, with the natural canopy high overhead just sparse enough for the twinkling stars to shine through. What shows? That would be stuff that turned left at the lights, planted the foot and ripped the rear view mirror off, and then ate it. (2010 Program Highlights are below).
The Outlands Ecoplex Cinema sits at the edge of Bush Camping, in the area known as "Africa". It consists of a large 8m x 6m screen purpose built between two ancient eucalypts, a six-speaker Super-Sonorama surround audio experience (which when coupled with Ultravision 3D effects and glasses REALLY puts you in the picture), and the action (or inaction) is projected by vintage 16mm gear out of a 1978 Jayco SuperTourer Caravan (with annex).
The Ecoplex runs basically all night, and is designed so you can drop in for a short or long while at any time – many of the films shown are indeed shorts so you don't need to set your watch for the start of a feature.
Please note Jeffrey Lewis will be playing a special solo set featuring his own projected illustrations at the Ecoplex Cinema, 11pm Sunday night.

Monsieur Greenpeas
Born of mystery & garden power! He wears a stripey Freddy Krueger top, he plays the banjo, and he’s a rich source of potassium. Director & animator, Yasuo Kurita, toiled over this for 5 complete and well-spent years: now say hello to Japanese animation’s most heroic vegetable…
Femina Ridens
Something for folks who prefer “actual” films (involving identifiable characters, meaningful dialogue, somewhat linear narrative & so forth)… Man-of-iron industrialist “discovers” the female conspiracy to steal sperm & freeze it for future unethical purpose: gender-war is declared, kinky mind-games follow - but his target might just have the feminine resource to outwit her tormenter? Extravagant psychological thriller is a largely unknown gem from a golden moment of Italian cinema, at the very end of the 1960s. Killer soundtrack, style-in-abundance, dubbed to English, but plentiful “Adult concepts” – not for small humans, OK.

The Brothers McLeod
Artfully munted & mercilessly funny, these UK siblings and dual animator/musicians have dropped a retrospective package on us. Initially famed for their Spamland series of webtoons, these days their work figures prominently within broadcast schedules of the BBC and Channel 4, as well as some inspired bread gigs for the Aardman company. Mostly, they take the P; check, fer instance, their 15 second redux adaptation of Homer’s epic, The Odyssey…
